'Stranger Things 2' has given birth to one of the year's most joyful memes
Straight from the Upside Down
Stranger Things 2 has been out for less than a week, which of course means that we all finished it three days ago, after blitzing through all nine episodes in two separate hungover stints at the weekend.
If you haven’t finished it yet, don’t worry, we won’t give any big plot details away here, but there is a spoiler ahead if you haven’t finished Episode 1 yet (and if you haven’t come on, what are you even doing with your life? Having one? Eugh, I hate you).
One of the sweetest parts of the new season has been the strengthening bond between Hopper and Eleven. As we find out at the end of the first episode, Hopper is hiding El in an old wood cabin he owns in the forest, and has been looking after her ever since she reappeared in the Right-Side Up (is that what we call it?).
And its their relationship that has borne Season 2’s first big meme, thanks to Twitter account @hopperdancingto.
The meme focuses on a scene where Hopper, trying to bond with El after rescuing her, finds some old records, and puts one on to try and cheer her up.
He cracks out what can only be described as the daddest of dad dances, and in return Eleven cracks a slightly awkward smile. His plan has worked.
What this Twitter account does is overlay different songs over the scene, so Hopper can be dancing to anything - ‘All Star’ by Smash Mouth, The Pokemon theme song, ‘Never Gonna Give you Up’ by Rick Astley - practically anything works.
Here are a few more of our favourites…
’All the Small Things’ - Blink 182
’Africa’ - Toto
The Office theme tune
Steve Harrington singing in Season 1
’Mr. Brightside’ - The Killers
’Barbie Girl’ - Aqua
’September’ - Earth, Wind & Fire
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme tune
Keep on dancing, Hopper.
