Strangers can help find your lost stuff with this gadget
It's happened to the best of us. Well, the most hungover of us, at any rate.
You awake in the remains of a doner kebab, the air heavy with the stench of meat, sweat and regret, peeling yourself off the sheets to find that the world is spinning. You search for your phone, hoping for some clues as to what happened last night - but, inevitably, you can't find your mobile. Or your keys. Or your wallet. They're not in the house, nor the doorstep, nor the pub.
Now, if you had fitted each of these with a Tile tracker (or the Tile app, in the case of your phone), you might stand a very good chance of finding your belongings.
A Kickstarter success story, the Tile concept is simple: a Bluetooth keyring communicates with your phone, allowing you to keep track of your keys/wallet/whatever the keyring is attached to from your phone. Should you lose your mobile and not be able to call it from a friend's handset, you can 'call' it from the keyring with the tap of a button.
With a range of 100 feet, you'll be able to find either your mobile or items if they're in your house - but the second generation of Tiles have some new functions that will help you track down your essentials over a much wider range.
The Tile app keeps a record of when your keyring was last in range of your phone, recording the location on a map should you become separated. If you log on to your account, you can also keep track of your phone in the same way.
Better still, Tile's 'community find' feature allows anyone with the app to find your belongings with total privacy: if someone walks past your mobile or keys, you'll receive a location update (via email, if you've lost your phone), aiding you in your search. The person who 'pinged' your item won't even know they helped.
You can pick up a Tile for £30, with discounts available for multipacks (should you be planning a really heavy weekend). You can download the app here: Apple, Android.
