Does Teresa Halbach’s death certificate prove Making A Murderer's Steven Avery was framed?

Sofa sleuths of Netflix unite.

Just when you thought there was no more fuel to pour on the fire surrounding Making a Murderer’s Stephen Avery, here comes even more doubt in the form of Teresa Halbach’s death certificate.

Obtained under the Freedom of Information act - along with 360 other documents from the case which you can see at Stevenaverycase.org - there are a few discrepancies to say the least…

 - Under ‘Cause of death’, the word “undetermined” has been written, and crossed out. Elsewhere "homicide is listed' as the cause.

- In the section indicating whether the body in question has been found or not, “no” has been ticked off - despite another part of the form claiming an autopsy had been completed. How was this possible if a body hadn't been recovered?

- Even more concerning, the above information was filled out a good six weeks before DNA evidence used in the case was even confirmed to exist by the FBI.

- The report also declares Halbach dead on 10 November, the day before Steven Avery was charged with her murder and only a day after the Calumet County coroner received the bone fragments, which is a very slim timeline.

As you pore over the scribbles, allow us to remind you that this isn’t primary school homework; these are official papers of a woman killed in suspicious circumstances, possibly on the residence of a man who already served 18 years in jail for a 1985 crime he didn’t commit.

So then, blundersome clerical error or genuine foul play from Wisconsin law officials?

One thing is for sure - coming on the back of Avery’s lawyer Kathleen Zellner's exciting claims over Twitter that she has found scientific evidence to free him, the question marks being raised over this death certificate couldn’t have come at a better time for her client and his nephew Brendan Dassey, also jailed for Halbach’s murder and hoping he might yet win freedom.

But given all that's gone before, we doubt either one of them is holding their breath right now.
