The 8 best fake movie sequels

The 8 best fake movie sequels

The 8 best fake movie sequels

While sequels can cause spasms of happiness amongst ardent cinemagoers, they're more likely to induce groans and angry mutterings from disappointed fans. But fake sequels? They're often blessed with a knowing tone, take the form of just a trailer or a skit and are aimed at lampooning the very idea of a sequel.

With stars including James Franco, Helen Mirren, Ray Liotta, Katy Perry, Zac Efron and Seth Rogen, here are the finest fake movie sequels ever to not really exist.

Amistad 2

While the sequels might have been tiresome at best, it's easy to forget just how funny and inventive the first Scary Movie was. During the Scream 2-lampooning cinema murder, we were also treated to this gleefully bleak trailer for a sequel to Spielberg's slavery drama Amistad. We'd have opted for Amistaded though but that's just us.

When Harry Met Sally 2 with Billy Crystal & Helen MirrenBilly Crystal

When Harry Met Sally 2

A rather elaborate take on a sequel to the classic romantic comedy which brings back Billy Crystal as Harry but pairs him with a new love, played by Helen Mirren. There's just one small catch, thanks to a money-grabbing studio exec, played by Adam Scott, she's a vampire. We'll not have what she's having! *tumbleweeds scuttle past*

Pineapple Express 2

As a clever marketing ploy for This Is The End, Sony released an April Fools trailer for Pineapple Express 2, assembled from pieces of the first film as well as a skit in the apocalyptic comedy where the cast combat boredom by taking on their Pineapple characters yet again. Sadly Sony's trailer for Grown Ups 2 was not a joke and was not funny at all not one bit not soever at all.

Weird Science 2 with Alessandra AmbrosioAlessandra Ambrosio

Weird Science 2

There's slightly worrying news that a Weird Science remake is on the way and after watching this Funny Or Die spoof, subtitled Strange Chemistry, we're convinced that the 1985 geek dream comedy should be left well alone. Breaking Bad's RJ Mitte and Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio star. Hilarity ensues.

New Year's Eve 2

An impression-stuffed SNL spoof here of an apocalyptic sequel to the aggressively star-stuffed New Year's Eve which features many many pleasures, including Kristen Wiig's spot on Drew Barrymore and Kim Cattrall, as well as Katy Perry probably starting a beef with song-murderer Christina Aguilera.

Field of Dreams 2: NFL Lockout with Taylor LautnerTaylor Lautner

Field Of Dreams 2

King of Comic Timing, the refreshingly clothed Taylor Lautner, is a slightly strange choice for the lead in this fake trailer for a sequel to the Kevin Costner classic. Baseball is changed to American football which allows for a stack of NFL cameos, along with some surprise appearances from some familiar faces...

The Big Lebowski 2 with Tara ReidTara Reid

The Big Lebowski 2

After her small but effective role in The Big Lebowski, Tara Reid chose to follow the dark side and after doing things like this and this, she decided to pretend she was starring in an official sequel. After we all poked fun at her for being a fibber, she joined in and made this one-woman follow-up.

High School Musical 4

Zac Efron returns to the all-singing high school in this SNL skit to let the new class know that outside of their very specific musical institution, breaking into song is really not that normal. We've never seen a single second of an actual High School Musical film in case you're wondering.
