The car that runs on wine, cheese and chocolate

In the race to produce the world's most eco-friendly car, Lotus has chosen a rather interesting strategy.

As some sort of 'screw you' to the bourgeoisie, the British car manufacturer is stealing all of their favourite things (bar dead foxes) and using them to fuel a new car.

The Lotus Exige 270E is powered by an ethanol fuel which is created from wine, cheese and chocolate. Thankfully, it's not quite as wasteful as it sounds. The wine is only the stuff that doesn't make the drinking grade, the cheese is actually just whey (a by-product of the cheese-making process) and the chocolate is classed as "surplus".

While running on this middle-class petrol, the car can reach 60 mph in less than four seconds. Just in case you end up consuming all of the gourmet goods, the car can also run on boring, non-posh fuel.
