The First Teaser Trailer For Johnny Depp's Black Mass
Johnny Depp must be sick of the makeup chair by now.
After seemingly devoting (read: wasting) the last decade of his career to mascara-clad buccaneers and whatever garishly dressed character Tim Burton cooks up, we can’t imagine he will have enjoyed prepping daily for his latest role - that of real-life Boston crime lord Whitey Bulger, only recently captured by the FBI having been on the run for years.
Paunchy, grey, balding, missing a couple of teeth, Depp looks near unrecognisable in the first teaser trailer for Black Mass, a drama based on the book of the same name which sees him returning to Donnie Brasco-esque terrain. And by the looks of his menacing portrayal - one scene involving a dinner table conversation is really intense - the actor will be hoping to reap an award that doesn't have 'Kid's Choice' or 'MTV' plastered on it. It could be the return to more serious films we've been waiting for.
The '70s-set film focuses on Bulger’s relationship with John Connolly (Joel Edgerton), the FBI agent who Bulger became an informant for in order to flatten his rivals and continue his ruthless reign of the city until he went on the run in the mid-90s, though another subplot to watch will be between the gangster and his politician brother Bill Bulger (Benedict Cumberbatch) who went on to become president of the Massachusetts Senate.
But first thing's first, don't share any home ingredients with him, whatever you do.
Black Mass is released 25 Sept.
