The Flying Car Has Landed

Mere days after the world's first hoverboard was unveiled, comes a new prototype for a flying car. Ladies and gentlemen, we are living in the future.

Slovakian startup AeroMobil are the heroes behind this latest development, as they've revealed the AeroMobil 3.0, the latest iteration of an idea that they've been developing for 25 years. It was unveiled at the Pioneers Festival in Vienna by its designer Stefan Klein, the founder of the Department of Transport Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Slovakia - so a man who knows what he's doing.

It's made of lightweight, durable materials, can accommodate two passengers and - best of all - the wings are retractable, so it could be used on a normal road. It's powered by 'normal' petrol, so you can refill this at any service station. And it requires very little runway space to take off, so if you're on the M1 and see a traffic jam ahead - up and over you go. This prototype has been designed with the aim of having it certified for use on Europe's roads and airways, something it looks to have achieved.

There's no word yet on when these will enter commercial production - although the company says it is "very close", but it can't come a day too soon.
