Now, stick with us for this one. There is going to be a reboot of a film which was itself a remake of a film which had a sequel and the remake then had two sequels itself. Or something.
Well whether you deem it necessary or not, The Grudge is getting a reboot.
Ghost House Pictures, who were behind the remake, are prepping a revisionist look at the story of a ghost with an axe to grind and have already hired Jeff Buhler to write the script. He's best known for penning the Vinnie Jones chiller Midnight Meat Train.
It will be produced by Sam Raimi, who was most recently involved in remaking his own horror film The Evil Dead.
The original film Ju-On: The Grudge was part of a Ju-On franchise which saw four other films, as well as a direct sequel. Oh and a video game and novels and comics. It was then remade in 2004, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and became a huge hit, grossing $187 million worldwide from a $10 million budget.
The sequel was less popular and the third chapter went straight to DVD.
