Sometimes people in bands sing about things they don’t really care about. You’ll see happily married rock stars singing about trying to ask girls out like they’re lonely teenagers, or see someone sing a heartfelt ballad about how much they love their partner only for the tabloids to reveal they’ve been carrying on multiple sordid affairs for decades.
But Tom DeLonge, founding (now ex-) member of Blink-182 and lead singer of Angels & Airwaves, puts his money where his mouth is. The inventor of the emo haircut wrote Blink’s 1999 song ‘Aliens Exist’, from the best-titled album of all time, Enema Of The State (here it is being performed kind of flat at Big Day Out in Sydney 18 years ago) and Tom very much believes its message:
DeLonge is really, really into aliens. He’s got tattoos of aliens, maintained a conspiracy theory website for a while, has written children’s books about aliens, graphic novels about aliens, young adult novels about aliens and a non-fiction book about aliens. He spends a lot of time thinking about aliens, this guy.
He’s got an organisation, To The Stars Academy Of The Arts And Sciences, which is slightly confusing to be honest. It’s a publisher, music label and merch company, but also a research and development firm looking into new methods of flight, and an investigative agency looking into government cover-ups, conspiracy theories and secret projects. It’s like the answer to a question nobody asked - “Can I know everything the US government has ever done to conceal the existence of extraterrestrials from the world and also buy a sick belt?”
They comb through loads of declassified military material looking for answers, and have made some impressive findings. The Academy has announced that it has evidence, in the form of a declassified government video, of actual alien existence, although words it all extremely densely.
GO FAST is an authentic DoD video that captures the high-speed flight of an unidentified aircraft at low altitude by a F/A-18 Super Hornet ATFLIR forward-looking infrared system.
Which means:
This video is, nobody knows what it is.
Here’s the footage:
There’s something unusual there alright, but what? If the writer-performer of Take Off Your Pants & Jacket’s excellent hidden track 'I Wanna Fuck A Dog (In The Ass)’ doesn’t know, then who ever will?
