People are accusing Kanye's new Yeezy trainers of being Reebok Classics rip-offs
Kanye the innovator
The renaissance of the all-white Reebok Classic has been one of the big footwear stories in the last few years.
You have a pair, your boss has a pair, the bearded barista who made your overpriced latte this morning has a pair so box-fresh you had to shield your eyes, even your dad has a pair, which very nearly put you off altogether. Why does he keep trying to out-menswear you?
Anyway, it looks as though Kanye West has modelled his most affordable Yeezy trainer yet on the iconic sports shoe, too. Or at least the internet seems to think so.
The Powerphase is part of adidas Originals’ upcoming Calabasas line, and at $120 (£96) it might be the cheapest way to get a pair of Yeezys in your wardrobe.
Always keen to build up a bit of hype ahead of one of her husband’s launches, Kim Kardashian has been showing off the (admittedly very flipping nice) shoes on her various social media channels.
Make no mistake, at less than £100 a pop these are pretty much nailed on to fly off the shelves from day one, but Twitter users were very quick to point out that they bear a not-so-subtle resemblance to the Reebok classic, which you can pick up for less than half of the price.
Of course, it’s worth noting that adidas has owned Reebok for years and you can’t steal from yourself. As far as we’re concerned, there’s room for more than one extremely white trainer in the world.
