iPhone cameras have improved at such a rate over the years that the current model can take images that you could have only dreamed of a few years ago. However, what we've really dreamed of doing for many years, is having night vision like in the movies and in the SAS. And now - it's a reality.
The NVC is the first night vision camera built into a battery backup case. Once clipped on, it can capture 5 megapixel images and HD video in total darkness. In addition, it has a microSD slot for backups and to increase capacity, while it can also be used remotely and controlled via a free app. The eight high power 940nm infrared LEDs make it possible to see and take images in complete darkness to a range of up to 30 feet (around 10 metres).
The company behind it, MSM labs, envisage a host of uses for the device, including as a baby monitor, for paintball, wildlife observation, home security, camping or just for fun. Ultimately you could use it to play some seriously devilish pranks on Halloween.
It's currently at Kickstarter stage, with an aim of $50,000 (£32,000). Prices for the actual device start at £129 (£82) with shipping due in May 2015. We're pretty sure Santa will be getting in touch to request an advance copy of one of these; it'd make his upcoming night's work a whole lot easier.
