There might be several hundred of them - but you’ve never seen The Simpsons' couch gag like this before.
Aired during the 11th episode of season 27, Teenage Mutant Milk-Caused Hurdles, Homer reaches the sofa alone, puts on a pair of shades and in the blink of an eye we’re transported from Springfield to neon-lit 1980s Miami, where the family man and his trusty settee take down a glut of shady sorts.
Fittingly scored to Giorgio Moroder’s Push it to the Limit from the soundtrack of Scarface, the distinctively animated skit (more nineties-Transformers than The Simpsons in style) which turns Homer into a square-jawed hunk and the couch into his Miami PD partner. Shooting, flying, breaking necks, the couch really is the Tubbs to his Crockett.
Among the clever references to the regular show (Max Power anyone?), LA-Z Rider comes loaded with cameos of all kinds of Simpsons characters, also finding themselves with an edgier look than usual. Stupid sexy Flanders is back too, only instead of tight ski suits, this time he’s a hench and heavily tattooed crime lord who spends time in discotheques, yachts and other places prime for a bloody showdown.
