When it arrived on big screens 40 years ago this month, Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange - a nightmarish tale of youthful violence based on the Anthony Burgess novel of the same name - caused shock, uproar and panic from cinemas to the houses of parliament.
But it also sparked extreme linguistic confusion. The 'Nadsat' slang spoken by the film's blade-happy protagonist Alex and his friends left many scratching their heads at time and still manages to befuddle first-time viewers today.
But how much of the fictional language has stuck with you? If you think you know your 'droogs' from your 'devotchkas', why not test your Nadsat nous by feasting your glazzies on this horrorshow quiz? (Please note: if you didn't understand that last sentence, it's probably not worth your while.)
