The North Face celebrates 25 years of one of their most iconic jackets
The Nuptse looks both warm and cool
To mark 25 years since its introduction to the world of warm jackets, The North Face are re-releasing their original Nuptse collection from 1992 in the original block colourways - including cobalt blue, The North Face red, and a yellow with a cracking dome print.
Built for the mountains but now more likely to be found on the torso of that bloke in the office who looks more at home at Nicolas Jaar than Kilimanjaro, the Nuptse’s styling is timeless and the tech is legit: meaning you’re always gonna look cool while you feel very warm, like you’re cutting about in your favourite duvet. The Nuptse’s never forgetting its roots.
“The jacket was actually named after its design team, who spent 55 days at the Nuptse basecamp [in the Nepalese Himalayas] staring at this terribly impressive, raw and uncharted mountain,” explains Darren Cookson of The North Face.
“On the mountain, there’s an old saying, a rule of thumb, when choosing your gear: light is right. That means you only pack the essentials, and everything that goes up should have a purpose - everything that went into the Nuptse’s design was centered around these principles.”
