The Raid was one of the best films of 2011, an action movie that overcame a tiny budget with a huge amount of clever ideas. The story of a group of cops becoming trapped in a high rise building while trying to kill a crimelord and the mutual destruction that entailed, it was an astonishing parade of ingenious ways to beat someone up. It’s been a fairly long wait for the sequel, which still won’t arrive until 2014, but director Gareth Evans has released the first teaser.
It’s a proper teaser in the sense that gives away absolutely nothing about the film, subtitled Berendal. Iko Uwais, who played the only surviving cop in the first film, is now in a prison cell for some reason, but that’s not vital right now. The focus is instead on his extraordinarily quick fists as he passes the time by punching the wall, interspersed with various bad guys who will presumably try to kill him. There’s a fight in a car, there’s a girl with a hammer, there’s a killing on an escalator. It is, in short, fun for all the family.
