Who? Blossoms
What’s the story? It is a fact not acknowledged often enough that Cast were responsible for a lot of great tunes. Somewhat overshadowed by a lot of the other Britpop heavyweights, their platinum debut album All Change is still the highest-selling debut album in the history of Polydor Records. So it's no bad thing that Stockport five-piece Blossoms have serious echoes of their scouse predecessors - although, thanks to the production talents of The Coral mainman James Skelly, they approach things with an updated sound for the current day. Charlemagne is a light, groovy slice of psychedelic indie pop, with Tom Ogden's John Power-esque vocals, appropriately, powering things along, with some keyboard flourishes on top and production that allows it all to breathe. Very nicely done indeed.
