Who? Chairlift
What’s the story? Brooklyn outfit Chairlift - currently a duo of Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly - have been critical darlings ever since forming back in 2005, existing on the margins with the occasional foray into the mainstream. In 2013, they wrote and produced the song No Angel with Beyonce. They've demonstrated their talents with the two taster tracks from forthcoming third album Moth, with Romeo exhibiting a punk-funk, Karen O-style side to their sound, while this song, Crying in Public, shows a gentler side. Both tracks share the same characteristics though, with a nicely-meandering, sonically-interesting verse giving way to a massive hooky chorus, before quickly hiding back away again. Moments of pop genius buried away - it's almost like they don't want to be famous. Get digging for gold and have a listen.
