The ShortListen: Katy B/Four Tet/Floating Points (no. 218)
Another brilliant collaboration from London singer
Who? Katy B/Four Tet/Floating Points
What’s the story? It was absolutely brilliant to see Katy B return to making all-out bangers in the form of Turn The Music Louder (Rumble), a group effort with KDA and Tinie Tempah which hit the top spot recently. It was a return to collaborative club music which, was after all, what launched her back in 2010 with Katy On a Mission, made with Benga and Geeneus. Now comes another belter, in the form of Four Tet and Floating Points collaboration Calm Down, which is still club focused but a little more reflective. Katy's vocal dominates on top of squelchy bass sounds and some fantastically urgent strings. As much as we enjoyed last album Little Red, the club is where Katy B belongs - and there'll be more of these coming next year on Honey, "a new project that will see Katy teaming up with a number of producers and artists". Excellent stuff.
