Who? Nina Nesbitt
What’s the story? Well, this is a bolt from the blue. The 21-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt released her debut album Peroxide in 2014 which was a perfectly nice set of Amy MacDonald-esque acoustic-folk-pop songs which hit a peak of 11 on the UK album charts. However, nearly two years on, she's come back with a marked change of image and style with Chewing Gum, a full-on electronic banger (co-written with Preston from the Ordinary Boys, no less) with more than a hint of her countrymen (and woman) Chvrches. We guarantee that somewhere in a record label meeting the name "Ellie Goulding" was mentioned - they're clearly aiming to match her stateside success and massive record sales following the move away from her original folky sound. It's a bold statement of intent, her vocals sound great - she clearly wants to be a proper popstar, so it's up to the public to decide if she'll actually become one.
