The ShortListen: Primal Scream feat. Sky Ferreira (no. 243)
New Order-style return from indie legends

Who? Primal Scream featuring Sky Ferreira
What’s the story? So the Scream are back with their first album since 2013's More Light, and the second without long-time bass player Mani - now reunited with The Stone Roses of course - who joined for 1997's Vanishing Point. They've led with a track which seems like something of a fresh start and one which could divide their fiercely loyal none-more-indie fanbase; it features an out-and-out pop star - albeit one who rejected her initial major label style to produce an impressive debut album in Night Time, My Time - in the form of Sky Ferriera. It also sounds like a long-lost New Order track, featuring electronica and polished production. But fear ye not loyalists, as it's a brilliant song - a genuine duet between Sky and Bobby Gillespie's unmistakeable vocals with a chorus to die for and a stylish video to boot. New album Chaosmosis is due in March and, on the evidence of this, will definitely be worth checking out.
