Who? Super Furry Animals
What’s the story? We've said it before and we'll say it again: the Super Furry Animals are one of the most consistently creatively brilliant bands of the last two decades. They've been much-missed since they went on hiatus after 2009's Dark Days/Light Years and their comeback gigs last year were rapturously received. Now, they return with their first 'new' tune since then and naturally (and paradoxically) it's as unpredictable, but predictably brilliant, as you'd expect.
Bing Bong is their song to celebrate Wales' appearance at the forthcoming 2016 European Championships (it was originally written and demoed in 2004 when Wales looked set to qualify, but didn't), is a ‘communal disco anthem’ consisting of some lyrics in Welsh ("The ball's like a pixel/In a game of Pong/Noise comes from our screens/'Bing' and then 'Bong'") with a lot of vocodered Bings and Bongs. The hypnotic video is nothing short of a work of genius. In the words of the band, "Bing Bong isn’t a song of victory or defeat, but a beacon of faith to return to when your best centre-forward gets sent off, or it rains at your festival. Keep it in a safe place for a time when you will need it." We'll do just that guys.
