Who? Tegan and Sara
What’s the story? Canadian twins Tegan and Sara had always produced quality stuff ever since beginning to make music together back in 1995, but they seriously took it up a gear with the release of Heartthrob in 2012, which saw them explore the idea of two women in their mid-thirties making full-on pop music - sonically - but with lyrics that came from their own life experience and all the baggage that comes from having been on the planet that little bit longer - and loved and lost a few more times - than the likes of One Direction and the rest. Now they're back with Boyfriend, the first taste of their new album Love You To Death, due out in June, and we're delighted to report that they seem to be going for take two. Synths bubble, handclaps smack, synth bass fizzes, and a huge, huge chorus erupts within thirty seconds. In and out in under three minutes, this is irresistible stuff (and you can check out a second song, U-Turn, below, which continues the good work).
