Who? Two Door Cinema Club
What’s the story? If you think you don't know Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club, then you're wrong - their music has been virtually inescapable due to its use on a seemingly infinite number of adverts - no surprise, given that their previous two albums were chock full of brilliant melodic hooks, which led them all the way to playing the likes of London's O2 Arena in 2013. Now they're back with a new album, Gameshow, their first in four years, and they've set the bar pretty high with the band's Alex Trimble saying “We’re not embracing the pop that’s going on now in a melodic or structural sense. The two biggest influences for me were Prince and Bowie - both total pioneers who straddled that line between out-there pop and avant garde craziness”. Are We Ready (Wreck?) is definitely a little weirder than their previous output, veering between a reggae-ish half time feel and a straight ahead groove. As usual, it's pretty immediate, but it's a bit wonkier and stranger than their old hits. The album, due in October, should be a seriously interesting listen.
