During the recent menswear shows at Paris fashion week, Icelandic designer Sruli Recht debuted his new skin ring, as part of his Autumn/Winter 2013 jewellery collection. In case you're wondering why the accessory warrants such a name, let us be clear: it includes a piece of his skin.
The Forget Me Knot ring, worth approx £315, 000 ($500,000) is made from 24-karat gold and includes a flesh overlay that was removed from Recht during a recent surgery. A 4.3 inch flap of skin was first cut from his abdomen,then salted and tanned so it could be mounted on the ring.
Apparently, this isn't the first time Recht has used controversial materials in his designs. In April 2011, Recht used the pelts of blackbirds and stillborn lambs for his first menswear collection.
