The Smart Bike That Tracks Your Performance

With every man and his dog ordering a smart watch this Christmas, why not plump for a smart bike?

The latest reason for this being the Dubike, a two-wheeled piece of game-changing technology from Chinese mega web giants Baidu. And when the Asian Google unveil a smart bike – well - you know it’s going to pack a bit more than an extra couple of Shimano gears and a jazzed up speedometer...

Created in sponsored_longform with the Industrial Design arm at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, the bike doubles puts the pedal power to good use, doubling as an electricity generator and allowing the user to transform kinetic energy into electric power thanks to a hub fixed to the rear wheel.

And that's not all: multiple sensors dotted across the bike's frame collect and collate data about the rider's health and performance, including heart rate, pedalling frequency, velocity, foot pressure, seating pressure, via an accompanying app, while a navigation bar integrated into the handlebar should certainly help skim a few minutes off a sweaty commutes into the office.

Though with the Dubike slated for a launch in China by the end of the year, you’d be wise to have a backup gift in mind.

Failing that, you can always strap a TomTom to your handlebars.
