"Left. Left. No right, RIGHT! RUN! RUN DAMMIT!" Should you start hearing fellow commuters bursting into similar pronouncements in the next few weeks, fear not - they're probably just getting to grips with Mayday! Deep Space.
Most games set aboard isolated space craft cast you as the plucky survivor, guided by unseen allies over a patchy radio, exploring deserted corridors and waiting for the inevitable arrival of alien zombies. Mayday! Deep Space switches things up: this time, you're the guy on the other end of the radio, helping a lonely figure escape his spacecraft using nothing but your voice.
Part game, part audio book, Mayday! transforms your iPhone/Pad/Pod into a two-way radio. As the crew member turns to you for help, you have to hold down your radio button and give one of ten commands, telling him which way to turn, what to look at and - when things get dicey - when to run. It's a maddening experience, watching your friend follow your instructions without being able to tap the screen to help him.
Featuring the vocal talents of Osric Chau (he played Kevin in Supernatural... obviously) and an engrossing script (for an app), this is the ideal game for those looking for a break from Candy Crush. It's available on iOS now for £1.99, and will be coming to Android "soon".
