We've often found ourselves smelling of whisky, but this is not usually deliberate: more an unintended next day consequence of a particularly enjoyable dram-fuelled evening.
But now you'll be able to indulge in the aroma every day with the announcement of a new Harris Tweed that will permanently emit the smell of Johnnie Walker Black Label via the use of a micro-encapsulated fragrance - a so-called Smart Textile.
According to the latter, the cloth smells of "rich malt, golden vanilla, red fruit and dark chocolate tones". Donald Mackay, head of the finishing department at Harris Tweed's Hebrides mill said, "I have worked with aromas in the past but they were only meant to withstand one dry clean. The process we have devised for Johnnie Walker means that this scent is layered into the fabric throughout the finishing process and is permanently imbued in the tweed."
A range of products based on the textile will be marketed around Europe in the coming months, beginning in Germany. If you can't wait that long, then for a short-term, similar effect, simply take an old coat and throw a bottle over it. Just as good. .
