The Japanese director’s works influenced a whole wave of six-shooting action. Possibly one of the most direct was 1961's Yojimbo, remade as spaghetti western classic A Fistful of Dollars, but even that was to pale in significance in terms of legacy to 1954’s Seven Samurai, reworked with cowboy hats for 1960’s The Magnificent Seven, starring the likes of Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen.

Continuing the theme of former footballers playing gunslingers after Eric Cantona’s turn in The Salvation, Vinnie Jones is reportedly playing one of the villains.
