There's been another comedy goal in this year’s FA Cup

There's something in the water of this year's FA Cup, and we're all in favour of it.

Following a truly ridiculous wind-assisted goal in a Preliminary Round match between Thamesmead Town against Guernsey at the end of the August, there's now been another beauty in a First Round Qualifying game which took place on Saturday.

This time, it came via the boot of Northern Premier League Premier Division side Spennymoor Town's goalkeeper Dan Lowson, who blasted an 80-yard free-kick into the net - via a big old bounce - against Radcliffe Borough to put his side 1-0 up. The kick was taken inside his own penalty area and he attempted the goalkeepers' union tactic of trying not to celebrate a goal that had embarrassed his opposite number, before giving in when his teammates began to embrace him.

The game itself was a good old corker of a cup tie, with Spennymoor eventually running out 5-3 winners despite a spirited effort from Radcliffe to pull it back.

If we don't see a goalkeeper scoring an overhead kick from the halfway line once the First Round proper gets underway in November, we'll be disappointed.
