This crazy superhero movie is Russia’s answer to Guardians of the Galaxy
And it's got a badass bear in it
Russia is rising: and we're set for a second cold war, in the world of films, at least.
The awesome trailer above is for a film called Zaschitniki - The Defenders, or The Guardians - which is set to give Russia its very own set of superheroes.
Set during the Cold War, a secret organisation named Patriot gathered a group of Soviet superheroes, altering and augmenting the DNA of four individuals, in order to defend the homeland from supernatural threats. The group includes representatives of the various nationalities of the Soviet Union with various superhuman talents.
Khan is the 'Windman', skilled with blades and martial arts, Ler is the 'Landman', able to manipulate the earth, including levitating rocks and moving mountains, Xenia is the 'Waterwoman', able to survive underwater and transform her body into a transparent liquid and Arsus is the 'Wildman', who is an absolute badass MAN-BEAR, who is apparently known for his drive to "break the enemy into small pieces". We're inclined not to question this statement.
The film is being helmed by Armenian director Sarik Andreasyan with a budget of 330m roubles - around $20m, and the main antagonist as listed as August Kuratov, a bad man who owns a machine named Modul-1, which enables him to control any technical equipment. Emboldened by this, he decides to build his own army of clones in order to capture Moscow and then - the world.
Filming is already wrapped but, for some reason, it won't be released until 23 February 2017. We're not sure we can wait that long.
