This website tells you what your life would be like if you lived in other countries
Discover how you'd be doing if you lived in different places all round the world
Ever found yourself daydreaming about what your life would be like if you were born somewhere totally different?
Well this website, ifitweremyhome.com, can actually tell you. With like, facts and stuff. That means you can find out fun stuff like if you’d be unemployed if you lived in Sri Lanka (quite likely) or if you’d be dead if you lived in Somalia (also fairly likely).
You can compare you home to any other country in the world. So using those two examples from above, people from the UK are 29.17% more likely to be unemployed if they were born in Sri Lanka, and 22.6 times more likely to die in infancy in Somalia (you’re also 5.6 times more likely to be murdered). Maybe it’s not all that bad here.
Aside from it being just pretty interesting to find out how you’d be getting on in any country of your choice, the site also gives you a good sense of perspective about where you’re from.
Britain’s pretty decent for not being murdered, which is nice, but we’re also destroying the planet. We use almost 100% more oil and electricity than somewhere like Tanzania, for example.
Interestingly, when you compare the UK and the US, the UK comes out on top in pretty much everything other than now much you earn, with Americans making around 41% more cash than us.
Here are a few other interesting comparisons between the UK and a selection of other countries from around the globe.
