Another week, another reboot, as news reaches us that Universal has put a remake of Timecop into development.
The original, released in 1994 was a time travel action movie featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme: we're presuming they won't be able to lure him down from his ice-covered mountain to take the lead role again. It was a critical and financial success: the latter probably explains why this is happening, and the former why fans of the original may be a little wary.
Marc Shmuger is slated to produce the film under the Universal-based Global Produce banner alongside Tom McNulty. Writers are currently being engaged to create the new script - the original was co-written by the creator of Timecop himself, Dark Horse Comics publisher Mike Richardson.
It's not the first time the story has been brought back to life. There was a TV spin-off in 1997 and a Jason Scott Lee-starring sequel in 2003.
A release date for the new reboot is unknown, but we'll be sure to travel into the future and find out (and also see if it's any good).
