Tom Hardy looks like a great big cigar-chompin’ ghost in new Al Capone biopic
This film looks unmissable
Most of the Tom Hardy chat over the last few months has concerned his title role in Venom, but the British actor has another big-ticket film on the way.
Venom might be out this year, with a trailer already upon us, but Hardy fans should also be excited about his upcoming part in Fonzo.
Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle; Fantastic Four), Fonzo is a biographical mobster film about the life of Al Capone.
Hardy has signed up for the lead role, and we’ve now been given our first glimpse of him in
Trank has shared a photo of Hardy as Capone, the notorious 1920s mobster who has previously been played on screen by the likes of Robert de Niro and Stephen Graham.
We’re likely to see plenty more of Hardy in the lead-up to the film, but this – thought to be the first still from Fonzo – isn’t a bad start.
Fans of the director and star certainly seem excited by the news, at least.
Unlike many depictions of Capone, Fonzo will focus on the gangster’s later life and struggles with dementia.
Other cast members will include Linda Cardellini as Capone’s wife Mae, Oscar nominee Matt Dillon and Twin Peaks star Kyle McLachlan.
It is due to be released in 2019, though we’re still waiting on an official date and a trailer - we’ll have more news as we get it.
