Tom Hardy's next movie is going to be very, very dark

Fresh from his role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, Tom Hardy has announced his next project – and it sounds amazing.

He’ll be starring in an adaptation of 1999 book My War Gone By, I Miss It So, due to be directed by Warrior director Gavin O’Connor. The book details the experiences of journalist Anthony Loyd as he worked as a war correspondent in Bosnia and Chechnya during the violent mid-1990s war, as well as his experiences with heroin addiction, his estrangement from his father and his mental health problems.

Hardy says he was struck by the writer’s “work and words”: “for me, his is an important voice and an important book”. 

O’Connor said that reading the book was “love at first page”.

“Anthony’s memoir was a portrait of war like I’d never read before,” he said. “An up close and personal account of a heroin junkie reporting from the front lines of Bosnia – the bloodiest conflict Europe has witnessed since the Second World War – who uses the high of war to kick his drug habit.

“It’s a book written with both fists”. 

O’Connor also compared the book to Apocalypse Now. 

“I feel privileged and honoured for the opportunity to bring the book to the movies."

In other Tom Hardy news, Christopher Nolan has revealed why he keeps covering his face up in movies.

His handsome face has been obscured in both The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk, but Nolan has good reason for it.

“I was pretty thrilled with what he did in The Dark Knight Rises with two eyes and couple of eyebrows and a bit of forehead,” he told the Press Association. “So I thought, ‘Let’s see what he can do with no forehead, no real eyebrows, maybe one eye.’

“Of course Tom, being Tom, what he does with single eye acting is far beyond what anyone else can do with their whole body, that is just the unique talent of the man, he’s extraordinary.”
