There's been a big development in the production of 'Top Gun 2'
More casting news has been announced for the hugely-anticipated sequel
Top Gun 2 is coming, whether you like it or not, so you’d better buckle up and take all the news we’re gonna throw at you, baby. Like, we’ve already told you that Val Kilmer’s Iceman will be returning, so what’s next on the Top Gun 2 slate? Well, after last week’s announcement that Goose’s son would play a part in the movie, we now have the name of the person that’ll fill those esteemed shoes.
Three actors were frontrunners for the role - Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell and Miles Teller - but our mate Miles has beaten the rest and emerged victorious. He’ll be playing the part of Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, who you’ll all remember through a nice big pair of wet eyes, because he - DEATH SPOILER - died in the original.
Bradley will be taken under the wing of Cruise’s Maverick, as his new protégé, as they navigate the brand new, modern world of “drone technology and fifth generation fighters [which] will explore the end of the era of dogfighting.”
This will be a great move for the rapidly-rising Teller, who wowed in films like Whiplash and Bleed For This - and his performance comes with approval from Cruise, who he screen-tested for personally.
The film, called Top Gun: Maverick is being directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, which is actually really good and you are wrong if you think otherwise), with original Top Gun producer Jerry Bruckheimer on co-producing duties. It’s set to hit to “fly” into cinemas July 12, 2019.*
