With autumn looming on the horizon, it’s time to look up all the notes you (naturally) made during the Men’s Fashion Weeks at the start of the year, relive your favourite moments and start shopping for the pieces you’ve been waiting to wear since you saw them march down the catwalks in Milan, Paris and London.
Unless, of course, (like most male humans) you slightly missed the boat as far as fashion shows are concerned. Which is fair enough, really, because they do hold them in January – and who starts choosing their clothes a year in advance? If the great and the good’s predictions of what you’ll soon be wearing seem to have passed you by, it’s time to turn to this helpful guide to men’s trends for AW13/14, courtesy of Style Pilot.
Geometric prints
From oversize squares to art deco-style designs, prints look like they’re getting a bit more ‘normal’, especially after the crazy cartoon prints of last year. The colours are more neutral too, with lots of navy, claret and grey. This wool silk sweater is ideal, or try this two-tone check cardigan.
Multitonal outfits
50 shades of grey got a whole new meaning on this season’s runways – one that’s much more acceptably paraded in public. From three-piece suits all in subtly different dark red tones to chinos, t-shirts, and jackets in head-to-toe beige, this trend is basically the same as wearing all-black, except with a whole lot more choice. You’re looking for all your clothes to be almost the same shade, just in different materials.
Baseball jackets
If you want to get pretentious, you can tell everyone you’re working a ‘sports luxe’ look in one of this season’s bomber jackets. Similar to the ‘varsity’ jackets you’ll inevitably be familiar with from American high school movies, this slim-fitting grey and blue jacket matches the trend perfectly. If you’re looking for something a little smarter, go for a block colour: this leather jacket could even be the first part of your brand new all-grey outfit. How’s that for planning ahead?
