Widely regarded as one of the finest pieces of non-fiction ever written, Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood is now headed to TV.
Although the bestselling 1966 classic has spawned numerous cinematic adaptations - most notably 2005’s Oscar-winning Capote starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman – it’s never been worked into a TV event series. But then again, you probably ask, why would it?
Capote’s reporting on the 1959 murders of a Kanas farmer, his wife, and two of their four children doesn’t exactly scream (OK, so there probably are some screams in there) TV entertainment, but lower those eyebrows; the omens look good on this one: Gary Oldman and Douglas Urbanski’s Flying Studios (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) will produce, writer Kevin Hood (Becoming Jane) will craft the script, and even the Weinsteins are involved.
“Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood has been riveting audiences since it first hit the literary scene almost 50 years ago, and it continues to have that same thrilling, timeless appeal today,” said Harvey Weinstein of the project. “We are extremely excited to be partnering with Gary, Doug and the whole Flying Studios team to bring what’s sure to be an unbelievable series to TV viewers.”
Besides, with grizzly drawn-out TV events like True Detective ushering the finest talent away from Hollywood in favour of the small screen, we're expecting the cast to be fairly heavyweight.
