Uber is getting a new app and it's got some awesome new tricks
It'll also make booking an Uber a hell of a lot easier
You use Uber because it's cheap, right? Cheaper than a standard mini-cab or black cab.
But finding out just how cheap has always been a bit of a faff; the app wants to know where you are, what kind of car you want and where you'll be going before it tells you just how many pounds you'll be parting with.
Which is why Uber has redesigned its app, pushing the 'Where to?' process to the front and centre of your user experience. By inputting your destination first, the app will immediately tell you how much each of its car options will cost you, as well as predicting the most direct route the driver will take and your expected arrival time.
Here's a trailer showing off the experience (and of course it's got a dubstep soundtrack).
The new app also features a bunch of new tricks designed to make you want to make every journey ever with Uber:
- You'll be able to add contacts to your Uber account, allowing you to give them a nudge via the app to share their location and thus let you book a cab to wherever they are
- The app will also "learn" from your routine, providing you with Shortcuts from the home screen of locations you often head to (Home, Work, the home of your mate who recently got FIFA 17)
- You'll also be able to share the status of your journey with friends and family, letting them know if you're getting held up/you've not been kidnapped
- Uber also says it will add "more experiences tailored around where you are going like transport information, restaurant reviews, local area guides and even Snapchat filters to keep you occupied"
The new app design is launching this week (3 November) and will roll out across iOS and Android devices over the coming weeks.
Or you could just keep taking the bus. Whichever works for you.
