You should really read this before you decide to upgrade to iOS 12
Once you decide, there's no going back
Apple has the whole tech world talking with their latest iOS 12 update; it comes with cool new features like augmented reality and group FaceTime, as well as some super handy security updates.
For most, it’ll be an easy decision to download the very latest software from the Cupertino-based corporation.
But what if you quite like your old system? What if you’ve grown attached to iOS 11?
Well, it will no longer be possible to downgrade from iOS 12, which has already been installed on 50% of devices, to iOS 11 once you make the switch. It’s standard practice for Apple to make older versions of iOS unavailable a few weeks after a new update - and that’s exactly what’s happening here.
So you’d better be pretty well sure, buster, before you make the commitment.
Here are some of the pros and cons of the latest operating system, via PC Mag, to help you make up your mind:
iOS 12 PROS
- New Animoji and Bitmoji-like Memoji
- Better augmented reality capability
- Bolstered screen time and content controls for your kids
- Better focus on privacy and security
iOS 12 CONS
- Limited AR adoption
- Photos app search struggles against competition
- Siri still feels lackluster
Overall, it looks like you might as well get the latest version because, as PC Mag says, “Apple’s iOS 12 tackles thorny issues of smartphone addiction head-on with Screen Time, and hands users hitherto unknown power with Siri Shortcuts. That’s in addition to fun memoji and an already-excellent mobile operating system.”
