Watch a Live Reading of 1984 on YouTube
02 October 2013

Considering that YouTube enables you to broadcast pretty much everything that ever happens to the world, this is probably quite an appropriate event for it to participate in.

The Washington D.C. Public Library is hosting a live reading of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel 1984 on January 21. The book, published in 1949, will be read through in its entirety, and you can even take part yourself. 'Special guest readers' are going to be included but you can sign up for a 10-minute reading spot (if you happen to live in D.C.) by filling in an online form. The whole thing will then be broadcast live on YouTube from the Library from 10am through to around 9pm.

The event kicks off 10 days of Orwell-themed activities, under the series heading Orwellian America? Government Transparency and Personal Privacy in the Digital Age, which will include screenings, events and lectures in the Washington area.

For more information, head to the D.C. Public Library website - and on January 21st, we'll be watching Big Brother watching you.
