It's amazing what an Oscar will do for you. A couple of months ago you wouldn't expect a 61-second spot for Terminator Genisys to dedicate approximately 25% of its time to J.K. Simmons, but the Whiplash star is all over the new footage in this ad for the fifth Terminator movie.
Terminator Genisys will be hoping to get the series back to the untouchable quality of the first two films. Its plan to do this is with a sort-of-reboot.
In this film, John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends his friend Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to save the life of his mother, Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), and guarantee his birth. But this time Reese arrives to find Sarah is living with a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who has been programmed to protect her and she isn't all that keen on facing up to her apparent destiny as mother of the saviour of the world.
As well as the return of Arnie's, albeit craggier, T-800 the film will also see a reprise for the almost indestructible T-1000, first seen in Terminator 2, but this time he's played by Lee Byung-hun instead of Robert Patrick.
Terminator Genisys is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) and is released in the UK on 3 July.
