Watch Bayern Munich's Thiago play a weighted pass to Santa
Santa Baby, put the ball in front of my run, for me
The Christmas spirit was alive and doing very well indeed at a top of the table clash between RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last night.
RB Leipzig were only formed seven years ago, yet after four promotions in seven years energised by their sponsors Red Bull, they find themselves at the caffeine-induced snow-capped summit of the Bundesliga with our man of the moment, Saint Nick, causing havoc for them.
Munich were 3-0 up when Santa Claus, a pacey winger with an innate ability to make the impossible, possible and a knack of finding space in the most tight of channels, makes a run down the left hand side, calls “Thiago! Ho! Ho! Ho!” and collects a side-footed through ball into his sleigh-trodden path.
Unfortunately for Thiago, Santa was just a playful pixel of his festive imagination in the form of a pitch-side advertising board. Jingle balls.
Thiago had almost definitely been taking reference from our Alternative Sports Personality of the Year Award nominee, Michael Bostwick, who in a game for Peterborough earlier in the season collected a ball in a similar part of the pitch and sprayed a ball out to a neon jacket wearing steward.
Thiago has clearly been a good boy this year though, he scored one and assisted another as Bayern went top for Christmas. Merry Christmas, Santa, you handy little winger, you.
