Watch Cumberbatch tease his "darkest secret" in new Sherlock trailer
...and it may be the last time we see the famous detective
The new trailer for the fourth series of the Beeb’s brilliant Sherlock landed over the weekend, and it looks set to be more sinister and morbid than ever.
Not only is Benedict Cumberbatch’s famous detective harbouring a “dark secret” and teasing us with its reveal. Not only does Martin Freeman’s Watson appear to be trapped down a well. Not only has someone gone full pyromaniac on a tasty crib. But Toby incredible-in-everything-he’s-ever-done Jones, has thrown on his villain jacket to assume the role of the season’s baddie, and we can’t wait to sink our teeth in to the three episodes.
If that’s not enough reason to ensure you’re in front of a telly when the programme rolls back onto screens on 1 Jan 2017, in a recent interview Cumberbatch made a few hints about this being the last we see of Sherlock. “It might be the end of an era. It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately,” he told the magazine. And with the last episode of the new series being called The Final Problem, we can’t help but think this might be curtains for the Baker St sleuth.
Sherlock season 4 airs on the BBC on New Year’s Day 2017.
