Westworld and Game of Thrones are two of HBO’s biggest shows; both are epic in scale and tell captivating cinematic stories. And as the reigning King and Queen of quality TV, there must be some temptation to help each other out. That’s what makes this cross-over theory so intriguing.
If you watched this week’s season 2 opener of Westworld, ‘Journey Into Night’, you might have seen some clues that could uncover this TV cross-pollination. The Thrones fan site Winter Is Coming tweeted an image of a mysterious wolf in the Westworld episode that looks remarkably similar to Arya Stark’s direwolf Nymeria:

Before you laugh us out of the room at this outlandish theory, we have more evidence. We also found out that The Man in Black’s horse is named ‘Ned’ – aka Ned Stark, the head of House Stark, the Lord of Winterfell, Lord Paramount and Warden of the North, and Hand of the King to King Robert I Baratheon. Coincidence? Maybe… or maybe not.
And wait – there’s more! In 2016, George R.R. Martin talked about the idea of a Game of Thrones crossover. According to Entertainment Weekly, the author mentioned it to the Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy over dinner.
“We love George and our daughter’s first trip anywhere in the world was out to Santa Fe for a screening of The Prestige at his theater, the Jean Cocteau,” Nolan said. “He’s a lovely guy and a stunning writer and it’s flattering he would encourage a crossover. We should be so lucky.”
WELL?! HAVE WE FINALLY CRACKED THE CODE?! IS THE GAME OF THRONES UNIVERSE JUST ANOTHER PARK IN WESTWORLD?! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!
Of course, we should remember that the Westworld creators love to throw in decoys to keep viewers off the scent. But it would be a fantastic idea if it turns out to be true.
