Will Smith Is Rebooting The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air
14 August 2015

We've got It's Not Unusual on full blast and we're doing the Carlton shuffle around the office.

It's a ritual we carry out ever Friday in the ShortList offices, but it has added significance today, given the news that Will Smith is looking to reboot The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with a contemporary twist.

Word comes from TV Line that Smiths' production company Overbrook Entertainment is in the early stages of developing a family sit-com that will modernise the nineties show that helped launch Smith's career.

A pitch is currently being finalised (though given the current boom of nineties revival, what network wouldn't want to see a pilot of the concept?), with Smith set to be an executive producer. NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt has already told TV Line the network would "be happy to talk to Will about it".

However, you can forget any storylines about "what happened next?" for the likes of Will, Carlton, Hilary and Geoffrey. Overbrook sources have told Variety that the show would be a reboot in style only, following a new character in a similar 'fish-out-of-water' scenario to Will's arrival in Bel-Air in the original series.

Still, we can always keep our fingers crossed for gratuitous cameos, garishly bright t-shirts and inexplicable dance-offs? Right? Right.
