Woman Pays $50,000 To Clone Dog

There’s no getting away with it, people are strange. Strange, odd, bizarre, weird, peculiar, unusual and curious. What one person thinks normal, another regards as plain daft.

And so it is with this interesting little story. Allow us to introduce you to Danielle, a dog-lover with a difference. When her beloved pet pooch Trouble died recently, rather than grieving and vowing to always remember him, she paid the not inconsiderable sum of $50,000 to have him cloned. In South Korea. Where they eat dogs.

Like we say, people are strange. But then this is a woman who already has an entire wall in her house covered with an image of Trouble’s admittedly adorable face, plus bed linen adorned with the same picture.

We dread to imagine what that sum of money could have gone towards – dog shelters immediately spring to mind – and cloning an animal is not the same as replicating him as the similarities will begin and end with aesthetics, but hey, people do funny things and hell is other people (thanks, Sartre) and love is all we need.

Which, at the end of the day, is probably why this planet is such a weird and wonderful place. Most of the time. Woof.
