Rachel Riley helps Yeovil Town continue the trend of elaborate transfer announcements
They keep getting more and more ridiculous...
Another day, another excitable football club getting creative with their transfer announcements.
Yesterday we saw Aston Villa use a mock-up WhatsApp conversation to unveil the signing of John Terry, after the ex-Chelsea Captain, Leader, Legend, penned a one-year deal with the Birmingham club in the hope that he can help get them promoted back to the Premier League.
Today the crown of banter passes to fourth-tier Yeovil Town, who actually invited their fans to play a round of Countdown in the lead-up to confirming midfielder James Bailey’s move to Somerset.
Once upon a time a few keepy-uppies and a grinning photo with the club scarf was deemed satisfactory, but in the age of social media this won’t do at all. No, Yeovil Town called in Rachel Riley.
First, a photo of the long-running gameshow’s co-presenter stood next to the famous board was uploaded to their official Twitter account. Yeovil hinted that rearranging the jumbled letters would reveal the name of their newest squad member.
Given that he’s been linked with the League Two outfit for a while, most fans cracked it pretty quickly, but that’s not to say the comments section was totally boring.
Eventually it was time for the official announcement, complete with a proper Countdown timer and everything.
Where do we go from here? One can only guess. Personally, we’d like to see Brighton enlist Salt Bae to spell out the name of their new loan goalkeeper signing using his trademark condiment.
The sky is the limit here.
