You can now search for movies on Sky Q by shouting movie quotes into the remote control
"Luke, I'm your mum!"
Traipsing through Sky trying to find a movie is sometimes a pretty laborious affair – now and again, you know what you want, and you want it NOW. You haven’t got time to t y p e it in, and besides, you’ve been doing that all day at work. What you need is a quick way to find the film you want, and if that could involve screaming the name of a film whilst wet Doritos crumbs spray forth onto your lap, then that would be perfect.
Thanks to Sky then, who has just introduced that very feature. Instead of scrolling, searching, typing, you can now just speak into your remote controller – simply hold the voice button on the remote and say something like “Ex On The Beach” or “Ex On The Beach” or “Newsnig- no, Ex On The Beach” and it’ll pop up immediately for you to watch.
But that’s not it. Sky has also included a fun little feature along with its voice search function. They’ve hidden a load of classic movie quotes in there, too, so you can search for Terminator by shouting “I’ll be back,” or watch When Harry Met Sally by screeching “I’ll have what she’s having,” or even watch Silence Of The Lambs by whispering “It puts the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.” Actually, no guarantees on the last one.
Also, if you don’t know exactly what you want to watch, you can also search for stuff to browse through by telling Sky a description of the kind of thing you’re looking for, so “Comedy movies starring Adam Sandler,” or “Action movies rated 18 which contain at least two bare arses, 25 instances of the word “twat” and a minimum of one person getting kicked in the bollocks.”
You can even ask Sky what’s coming up on a particular channel that evening, so: “What’s on Babestation tonight?”
It’s a pretty all-encompassing search feature, and is a bit of a godsend for indecisive people like me, who often spend much longer looking for something to watch than actually watching anything. No word on whether it’ll respond to commands like “Hold me” or “Don’t Leave”, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.
Voice search is available for errrrbody right now, providing you’ve got Sky Q, of course.
Oh, and here’s a fun video of impressionist Terry Mynott banging out some famous movie quotes:
None from Showgirls, weird.
