Good news: you'll soon be able to remove your default iPhone apps
Tremble in fear, Stocks app. Your end is nigh.
Honestly, when was the last time you used the Apple Stocks app? Or Compass? Or Watch, or iBooks, or Tips?
Residing in the depths of a 'Useless' folder on your otherwise pristine iPhone screen, these default, indestructible apps might soon be removable.
The keen eyes of AppAdvice have noticed a new line of metadata in the iTunes that hints at Apple could soon give users greater control over which apps live permanently on your screen.
These two new keys, labelled "isFirstParty" and "isFirstPartyHideableApp" in iTunes metadata (which provides information such as the time it was released, the category, its size and other values). In the past two weeks, these values have been appearing on every app in the App Store.
These new keys suggest we'll soon get the ability to remove first party apps like Stocks and Compass very soon.
Tremble in fear, Tips. Your time is nearly up.
