Part giant iPad, part boardroom table, the Samsung SUR40 is a megalomaniac’s dream.
Comprising a powerful 4in-thick PC with a 40in HD touchscreen floating on top, this device aims to replace the traditional office desk/PC set-up. It can do everything a PC can, but forget about a mouse and keyboard — controlling it is more akin to conducting an orchestra. If Napoleon had planned the Battle Of Waterloo on this, we’d all be singing La Marseillaise…
- The 40in Gorilla Glass HD touchscreen is 10 times tougher than standard glass. So you can still use it as a desk, although that would be a bit of a waste.
- Controlling this device is akin to conducting the Royal Philharmonic. You can ‘hold’ video or a presentation, then spin it around so that everyone can see it, and then zoom in by drawing your hands together.
- The display is no ordinary touchscreen. Pixels emit
an infrared beam — meaning it can ‘see’ and react to objects, in addition to reading text placed face-down.
